What’s the difference between the theoretical weight and actual weight in the offer?

Most customers have doubts about the theoretical weight and actual weight, and on most conditions the suppliers offer on theoretical weight basis and price is cheaper, they don’t know why.

It’s easy to understand the steel or steel pipe price is calculated by the actual weight, and for some fixed size, the weight is related to the thickness of the pipes or coils. And for most the steel pipe or steel coils production, there will be tolerance, which means the final thickness or weight may be a bit difference than the original calculation as the final thickness changed a bit due to the tolerance. There is tolerance for the raw steel coils, and for the steel pipe factory production, they also have the tolerance as per standard.

The theoretical weight is a bit cheaper because the control for the tolerance on minus, so the thickness for the pipes reduce a bit but still qualified as its production standard, and the final products total PCS no change, and it’s also qualified for your use for the pipes, just the weight reduce a bit because of the thickness reduce a bit. As the steel pipe production price is calculated on the basis of steel coils weight, due to the weight reduction a bit, so the final offer is a bit cheaper.

Anyhow if you want the price based on the final weight and want more control for the thickness or weight you can make it clearly that you only want the offer on actual weight basis.
